I have taught at Beloit since 2004, although before then I managed to live in every continental US time zone (not counting Yukon time!). 在贝洛伊特, I work with students to explore how storytelling can transform both our current world 和 worlds of the future.

I welcome mentoring student projects (critical 和 creative) on 科幻小说, 气候小说, the environmental humanities, neo-Victorian/ historical fiction, 和 narratives about data 和 modernity. Members of my classes often curate their own art exhibits (such as 绿色的浪漫主义弗兰肯斯坦200).

我发表了 a book on mechanical models of feeling 和 community in the Victorian period, 和 enjoy teaching courses on literature, 科学, 技术, 环境研究, 媒体研究, 文学改编, 和 evolving forms of human 和 posthuman identity. My current “passion project” explores fantasies of technological design 和 spiritual intelligence from Charles Babbage to the present.

My research has been recognized by fellowships 和 awards from the American Council of Learned Societies, the American Philosophical Society, the Associated Colleges of the Midwest, the British Society for 文学 和 Science, the National Endowment for the Humanities, 和 the North American 维多利亚时期的研究 Association.

When I’m not teaching or researching, you can find me running very slowly, hanging out with my family 和 cats, or 非母语英语课程 tutoring for Beloit’s Stateline Literacy Council. My parents came to the US as non-native 英语 speakers from the Middle East (from the Armenian diaspora in Syria 和 Turkey), so I have a particular soft spot for foreign students 和 people interested in studying 和 traveling abroad.
